Senator Professor Sunday Osarumwense Iyahen was born Sunday October 3, 1937 and went to the great beyond Sunday January 28th 2018. He hails from the prominent Ogbeid'oyo family of Benin from where the extended family name derives it's root. His grandfather was a Palace functionary (Odibo-Eweka) and his grandmother Osaguona, was from Evbuogho, Isi in Uhunmwode LGA of Edo state. Senator Prof S. O. Iyahen was the son of Mr. Solomon Igbinuwen Iyahen and Madam Aiwekhoe.
Senator Prof S. O. Iyahen was an Anglican by faith. He got married to former Miss Veronica Aigboduwa Osagie September 25, 1967. The union is blessed with 5 sons and a daughter: Vbenaye, Osadolor, Ewansiha, Omoruyi, Osamede and Osasumwen. The union is also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Abraham, Abel, Nehikhare, Esosa, Omoefe, Osasere, Jason, Iwinosa, Osamudiamwen, Olujimi and Olatoye .
His siblings include brothers namely: Mr. David Iyahen (Late), Mr. Emmanuel Iyahen (Late), Dr. Vincent Iyahen (Late), Dr. Patrick Iyahen, Mr. Christopher Iyahen, Mr. Osahon Obarogie, Mr. Osaretin Iyahen and Mr. Ikpomwosa Iyahen. His sisters are namely Mrs. Roseline Osunde (Late), Mrs. Rebecca Okhuoya, Ms.Patience Iyahen, Ms. Ifueko Iyahen (Late), Mrs. Ayo Obode, Mrs. Osadebamwen Aburime, Ms. Queen Iyahen, and Mrs. Isoken Emokpae. Two of his uncles were Pa. Benji Oyemwense and Pa. Benard Oyemwense. He was also blessed with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Senator Prof. S. O. Iyahen attended St. Matthew's CMS School, St. Peter's CMS School, Benin City. For his Secondary education, he attended Edo College where he bagged a Grade One in his WAEC. He obtained a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics from the University College, Ibadan. He also attended University of Glasgow, Scotland and obtained a Ph.D and D.Sc in Mathematics from University of Keele, England. He was a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (F.A.S) and a Fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (F.M.A.N).
Senator Prof S. O. Iyahen has been outstanding in his area of Mathematical Research interests which is Functional Analysis. He had various published works in international Journals and was a renowned and well respected leading authority in "General Theory of Topological Vector Spaces".
He boasts of very many outstanding contemporaries by reason of his academic achievements. He taught and carried out research work at University of Ibadan, Institute of Technology/University of Benin, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja and Benson Idahosa University, Benin City.
Senator Professor S. O. Iyahen was also a two-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Bendel Central Senatorial District under the platform of N.P.N and S.D.P. where he served in different capacities.
He was a foundation member and first President of Aduwa club of Benin, Ewaen Group of Benin and Past President of the Cedar Club of Benin.
Senator Prof. S. O. Iyahen enjoyed various appointments within and outside the Academia including:

-Co-ordinator, Mathematics Programme, National Mathematics Centre, Abuja
-Head of Dept. of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering, Benson Idahosa University
-External Examiner in Mathematics in many universities in West and East Africa
-Guest Scientist
-Member, Nigerian Merit Awards Specialized Committee on Science
-Served the Nigerian Union of Universities in various capacities
-Member, Nigerian Population Commission
-Resident Commissioner for then Bendel State
